Consulting engineer letterbooks, 1891-1910.

Letterpress copies of correspondence from the consulting engineer to railroad companies include requests for information or recommendations concerning the construction, approval, inspection, or operation of interlocking railroad crossing systems; railway accident investigation; rail line physical characteristics; and new railroad equipment examination results. Correspondence often accompanies interlocking system permits and occasionally includes railroad crossing sketches. Also included is consulting engineer's correspondence to Commission chairman reporting interlocking system inspection results; and secretary's correspondence to railroad companies requesting annual report clarification.
